Back in the Middle East

after close to 90 days in Canada, I am back in my birth land for 21 days … the PoliCania diary is full of moments to contemplate and the PoliCania book got more aspects and deaths. yet , what I find hard to deal with – is my routine of publishing in the blog. Hopefully I will get better in it too ๐Ÿ™‚

here I attach an article in Hebrew , about last night news from Turkey. I will add an English summary soon:

more than 30 days ago I started this blog. 76 days have past since the ย PoliCania starting point. I can see it at ย the moment ย PoliCanit screen show took place in my art studio in Jaffa, ย right before I gave up my domestic way of life to a semi nomad life. The PoliCania project becomes more and more clear to me , and at the same time it gets new layers and new ways of perception. In my writing I am trying to hold pieces of memories , insisting on natural interactions without interviewing and without intensive writing. I am not sure that this is the right way to make my PoliCania model alive. It kind of let the project be cooked slowly in the interior cosy”domestic zones”ย of the ย Caetani art residencyย in Vernon.

The kitchen in the Caetani residency got a wide window to the north. That means you would like to go down to the nice and wide garden if you want to enjoy the sunโ€ฆor give up the siesta time (2pm-4pm) for working in front the ย triptych window inside the private room.

I enjoy doing that with a pot of tea and fresh vegan cookies ๐Ÿ™‚

After I saw the nice jar of my PoliCania Vegan cookies that I broth to Julie & Paul finished in one evening (with someย wine , right after a delicious pizza) I can say that not only me enjoy the taste ofย these lumpy sugarless cookies.

Here is theย recipe that I invented and improved from one time to the otherโ€ฆinspired by the wonderful apples of the Okanagan valley:

Vegan cookies from PoliCania

3 tablespoons of chickpea flour

2.5 tablespoons of coconut

2 tablespoons almond flour

Teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon cardamom

Small cubes of apple (recommended -1/2 of a sour apple and ยฝ a sweet apple)

A handful of dried fruits cut to small pieces

1 Walnut crumbles

1 spoon pumpkin seeds

  • The amount of the apple pieces and the dry fruits

ย should be double than the amount of the dry ingredients

  • Put on the oven on medium heat.

2 – Mixย the dry ingredients and than add the fruits & nuts

3 – Gradually add coconut water โ€“ half a cup to a cup so that the

ย mixture will be sticky , thick and homogeneous.

Make sure that the fruits still look as the main issue- you want it to look like fruits with dough and not a dough with fruits.

4- Using two teaspoons,ย  put small lumps on baking paper.

Put it in the oven for half an hour. ย gently turn the lumps

ย (that suppose to became stiff after 15 minutes ).

ย If you like – you can add

ย sweet carob and dates dip:

2 dates cut into pieces

ย Crush them into half a glass of coconut water Until the water get brownish tint

Allow to warm slightly on low heat

Add 2 tablespoons of carob powder

1 Tablespoon of almond flour

And flavors (cinnamon, vanilla ..)

The dip can be also โ€œtransformโ€ to chocolate bites , after some time in at the frieze

All big things are built from little things.

ย Resolution is not just human made. But it needs the senses to be seen or touched.

I am walking ย through the roads of Wells. The snowy night is followed by a rainy morning.

Leaves ย are covered with snow. Others ย revealed by the rain.

Little ponds renew and hold still the left overs of the frozen ponds from days before

I remember the big mural inย Quensel that I saw yesterday โ€“ a big scenery built out of many little photos. Making every little scene ย part of a major one.

Then ย comesย  another line of thought, as I see the ย works of art hanging on the outside walls of Wells- a thought about the part that one can take in the creativity vibration, in the big picture of the art.

Like all community, this community is built of people and their movements- the doing and undoing of a person. That ย makes the colour of life. That makes the variety of a society.

Almost every house here has the sight of an artist follower โ€“ the art works on the walls show it. When somebody wants to collaborate with the art scene โ€“ when someoneย gives a donation and they get a piece of art to put up for some time on the outside wall of theirย house. That makes a donation to the arts a more communal and social act. And it is appreciated. And it can beย  seen as part of the public area as much as part of the daily life at home.ย  It givesย another aspect forย being a part of ย the community. It givesย the donor who owns the work of art a way to ย collaborate with creativity.

To be partย of a broader picture.
